John Ely

Founder and Chairman
John Ely has a well-earned reputation as a leading expert on hydraulic fracturing. With many thousands of successfully completed wells in his portfolio, he has also developed multiple product lines for leading oil and gas service companies. His research has brought about many innovative fracturing processes that continue to yield results today.

Jon Harper

Chief Executive Officer
Jon Harper has over 25 years of experience in Hydraulic Fracturing and completions engineering. Jon started his career out of Texas A&M University as a field engineer for Halliburton as well as working with other major service companies such as Weatherford and FTS International/Pro-Frac. He has also worked on the proppant and mining side of the industry along with frac chemicals, and the early phases of dual fuel CNG conversions for hydraulic frac pumps. Jon has been with Ely for the past 11 years and has extensive knowledge regarding expert completions techniques and field operations for different formations across North America. He is an active member of the SPE and has co-authored three SPE technical publications as well as One technical publication in World Oil Magazine.

Edward Smillie

Chief Operating Officer
An experienced oil and gas industry professional since 2007, Ed has built a career with industry leaders including Halliburton, Schlumberger, and BJ Services. Joining Ely & Associates in 2011 as an Engineering Consultant, Ed worked his way up to Chief Operating Officer with dedication, industry expertise, and strong leadership. His years of hands-on experience developing teams and driving performance continually delivers results for Ely clients.
